There has to be some kind of quality assurance, and some measurements of initial values against which companies must set their product. A minimum level, a basic value has to be present for production houses to set their standards and compare them against. This is where ISO 9000 come in. The International Organization of Standardization maintains ISO 9000 which is a group of standards which are set in order to make such edicts.
The ISO 9000 deals with a few essential things which are must do for any given company registered with them. This includes:

1. Keeping a set of product standards that should match the output.
2. Maintaining a series of procedures of production which is more or less common to virtually all production process.
3. Recording important data.
4. In case of the product range or company is found defective steps are taken to rectify it.
5. Looking for scope of improvement in the system and suggesting modes of enhancing the process and product.
This is why ISO 9000 is such an important ingredient in product management. If a company does not abide by these rules, that is not complying with the global edicts set, and therefore cannot function proper unless the products are approved and appropriated duly.
